Brandy or brandi is the generic name of spirits obtained from the distillation of wine, after a period of ageing in casks; this name is universally used. In some areas, spirits are given a designation of origin linked to the production area, such as Armagnac and Cognac.
The brandy can be produced in any country where the grape is grown.
