Small Batch Gin - Brooklyn
Distilled from local wheat and infused with hand-pressed juniper berries, patiently peeled citrus fruits and other "botanicals" selected from around the world, Brooklyn Distilling Company Gin does not require too many presentations, but only the right cocktail in which to savor it virtues. The sip is fresh and dry, perfect for playing the role of the protagonist on every occasion: a Gin that is worth trying.
Type: Gin
Origin: U.S.A.
Alcohol content: 40%
Format: 70cl
Tasting Notes: To the eye it is totally colorless, clear and transparent. Fresh fruity notes are balanced on the nose with deeper scents, in which juniper and citrus fruits are particularly intense. The entry to the palate is clean and harmonious, flowing with a dry, perfect and linear sip, which encourages pleasant drinking.
Cocktail: An intriguing combination of salt and citrus. Start by mixing the lime, salt, and syrup in a Collins glass. Add the gin and stir, then top up with ice and soda and garnish with a slice of salted lime.
The Distillery: The Brooklyn Distilling Company was founded in 1895, with the aim of producing alcohol starting from molasses and sugar industry waste, but it was then closed after a few years of activity, at the beginning of the twentieth century. The company remained inactive for some time, only recently reopening with the production of Brooklyn Gin, the first distillate made within the walls in over 100 years. Behind the Gin, created since 2010, we find Emil Jättne and Joe Santos, passionate about desire to create a highly artisanal distillate, made only in small quantities. Starting in the midst of the American financial crisis, Emil and Joe did not have the resources to build their own distillery, and were therefore happy to be able to bring the Brooklyn Distilling Company back into the limelight. The entirely manual processes, compared to other more industrial and "mechanical" types of Gin, require a considerable time commitment, but the difference in terms of tasting is truly tangible. Each "batch" made leads to just 300 final bottles, and the overall manufacturing process - in which a Christian Carl copper still is used - lasts 3 days. It starts from the selection and preparation of the best local wheat and the best natural ingredients, coming from all over the world, hand-processed to release the true essence and complexity of the raw materials. Among the different "botanicals" used we find lemon zest, juniper and various citrus fruits. The result is a pleasant and elegant product, so much so that Brooklyn Gin is also good for sipping on its own as well as in classic cocktails like Negroni and Martini. International critics have also realized the qualities of this Gin, so much so that they awarded it the gold medal at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition, the latest in a series of prestigious awards obtained in a very short time.
