VV Vinhas Velhas Porto DOC - Niepoort
This Portuguese wine has a pleasantly dry flavor. It was bottled with exceptionally low residual sugar. This is a truly premium wine that clearly stands out from simpler varieties, and despite its dryness, this Portuguese wine naturally delights with its superb balance. Excellent flavor doesn't necessarily require a lot of sugar. Thanks to the fruit's vibrant acidity, Vinhas Velhas Branco is remarkably fresh and lively on the palate. The finish of this white wine from the Douro and Port regions impresses with its remarkable persistence. The finish is accompanied by mineral notes from the limestone and clay soils.

Tasting Notes: Bright with lemony nuances. A discreet nose reveals aromas of citrus, apricot, and walnut, along with floral notes and hints of fresh herbs that lend the wine complexity and refinement. It offers incredible structure, elegance, acidity, and a saline character that immediately evokes the limestone soils of Bairrada. The finish is long and persistent, with some spicy nuances at the end.
Pairings: Fish and cod dishes. It pairs very well with Japanese-inspired dishes.
The Winery: The Niepoort family has been producing Port since 1842. The first property in the Douro was purchased in 1987, and Dirk Niepoort ushered in a new era for the winery, creating the first Redoma red in 1991. In recent years, Niepoort has taken on the challenge of interpreting other soils and climates, acquiring two properties in other regions. The estates are distinguished by their different soils: Douro schist, Bairrada limestone, and Dão granite. Niepoort's mission is to maintain its position as a niche producer, ensuring continuity in its production and combining centuries-old tradition with innovation. The importance placed on interpreting soils, climates, and grape varieties has led Niepoort to biodynamic farming, aiming to find the right balance between biodiversity and the least invasive intervention possible.
