Single Malt Scotch Whiskey Time Series No18 40 Years - Glenfiddich

For 20 years, William Grant dreamed of producing the finest whisky in the valley.
With the help of his family, he finally realized his dream in the summer of 1886.
Glenfiddich is a Gaelic term meaning valley of the deer. The Glenfiddich Time Series consists of a total of three exceptional single malt whiskies. These exquisite whiskies have matured for decades and have thus acquired a richness of flavor. Glenfiddich 40 Time Series No. 18 was produced using the Remnant Vatting process, in which the remains of the previous batch are reused and blended with the casks. Glenfiddich is the only distillery to use this process to produce exceptional whiskies. The whisky itself is presented through a bold and idiosyncratic depiction of a geological metamorphosis. The accompanying decanter is housed in a hesmonite container and stopper, making each piece unique.

The Distillery: William Grant founded Glenfiddich in 1886. The father of seven children, he was first an accountant and then a manager at Mortlach, as well as choirmaster at the Free Church in Dufftown. After 16 years of saving and hard work, aided by his children and two wives, he built the distillery by hand, stone by stone. The distillery's initial equipment was purchased for 120 pounds from Cardhu: a pair of used stills, a set of wash tuns, a worm tub, and a noria. The water came from the Robbie Dubh spring. It was Christmas Day 1887 when the first distillate emerged from the stills. Grant immediately began supplying large blenders in Aberdeen (thanks in part to the Glenlivet fire and the resulting shortage of Speyside malt), and then developed his own brands, including "Stand Fast" (the rallying cry of the Grant clan). By the time of William Grant's death in 1923, his blends were being sold from Australia to Canada and flourished in the postwar whisky boom. In 1964, Glenfiddich rewrote whisky history by releasing an eight-year-old single malt on the English market for the first time. It was a shaky start, as few knew the name or the product, but when Glenfiddich began to attract attention from newspapers and the media, with the publication of various articles explaining how this "new" single malt whisky was produced, the phenomenon exploded. By 1970, sales in the UK exceeded 24,000 cases, and just four years later, the value had reached 120,000. Thanks to this and other single malts produced, as well as the distinctive triangular bottle, Glenfiddich today holds a predominant position in the whisky market. In 1969, Glenfiddich was the first distillery to open a visitor centre, and if you're passing through Dufftown today, be sure to pay it a visit. The tour will immerse you fully in the history and tradition of this excellent spirit, and of course, at the end of the tour, there's a tasting of their finest whiskies.
