Tasting Notes: Bright ruby red in color, with purple hues. On the nose, the wine offers a rich and complex bouquet, with notes of cherry, raspberry, and plum, enriched with hints of spice, aromatic herbs, and a light minerality, reflecting the diversity of the Central Otago terroir. On the palate, the wine stands out for its incredible elegance and balance, with soft, silky tannins that integrate perfectly with the lively acidity, creating a harmonious and persistent structure. The red fruit flavors and spicy notes blend with hints of chocolate and moist earth, leading to a long and satisfying finish, leaving a pleasant sensation of complexity and refinement.
Food Pairings: Ideal with meat dishes, particularly lamb and game, as well as mature cheeses, Akarua Pinot Noir is also an excellent sipping wine, offering a profound tasting experience that reflects the unique character of Central Otago Pinot Noir and the high quality of Akarua's production.
The Cellar: The Rothschild family's winemaking tradition dates back to the second half of the 19th century, to 1868 to be precise, the year James de Rothschild purchased the famous Château Lafite. However, it was in 1973 that, after more than a century of family history connected to the world of wine, James's great-grandson, Baron Edmond de Rothschild, strengthened the company's holdings by acquiring two "Crus Bourgeois" in Listrac and Moulis en Médoc: Château Clarke and Château Malmaison. Since then, the growth has continued: meticulously restoring all the structures and buildings and initiating systematic replanting, the "Compagnie Vinicole Baron Edmond de Rothschild" was founded. While maintaining a family-run business, it has embraced modernization and innovation, extending beyond France to New Zealand, South Africa, and the Argentine Andes. Experience and tradition dictate the pace both in the vineyard and in the cellar, so the vines are cultivated with extreme care and with full respect for the environment and ecosystem. During the vinification, aging, and maturation stages, each production step is meticulously and scrupulously monitored. Producing quality wines that meet the highest standards in terms of terroir selection and winemaking methods, the company continues to expand steadily, maintaining a strong passion for excellence and firmly on course for consistent production momentum. A winery, in short, among the most prestigious in the world, capable of combining the utmost excellence with large numbers like few others.
