Tasting Notes: The Merlot provides volume and rich fruit, the Cabernet Sauvignon brings structure and freshness, and the Petit Verdot spices things up. The wine reminds us of a clear night with lots of shining stars. It's dark and yet incredibly beautiful. Expect expressive black cherry, crème de cassis, wild strawberry, smoky barrel notes and peppery gingerbread spice.
Pairings: Perfect with tasty dishes.
The Cellar: In 1853 Nathaniel de Rothschild created Château Mouton Rothschild, and fifteen years after him his uncle James Mayer de Rothschild purchased Château Lafite Rothschild. The former is Bordeaux's most flamboyant and part of the Primum Familiae Vini - an association of the world's best family-run wineries that include Antinori, Vega Sicilia, Tenuta San Guido, Egon Müller, Pol Roger, the port house of the Symington family and many others. The nearby Château Lafite Rothschild has also become one of the most famous and sought after wines in the entire world. Esteemed wine critic Neal Martin describes it as the "essential wine of elegance" and is widely regarded as the most consistent of the First Growths. In 1962 the Lafite branch of the Rothschild family took the “Lafite Spirit” they had nurtured on the great terroir of Pauillac and began to expand their empire. Starting from Bordeaux they purchased the nearby Château Duhart-Milon, then Château Rieussec in Sauternes and Château l'Evangile in Pomerol. They then branched out into South America with Viña Los Vascos in Chile and Bodegas Caro in Argentina, then further afield into France with Languedoc's Domaines d'Aussières and even into northeast China with a new project called Long Dai.
