Nebbiolo Superiore Serre di San Pietro Monferrato DOC - Cantine Bava
Serre di San Pietro comes from one of the Bava family's most historic vineyards, on the Cadodo hill in Cocconato. The Bava family has lived and cultivated the land here for 13 generations. The Cocconato area and the scenic series of Serre hills have a long tradition of producing Nebbiolo. Given this history, we replanted Nebbiolo vines in the late 1990s, a decision that was later recognized with the Monferrato DOC Nebbiolo designation of origin. The wine has the character and fragrance of this area's renowned reds. Elegance and structure blend harmoniously, enhancing the fragrance and freshness of great Nebbiolos.

Tasting Notes: It displays a bright ruby red color. The bouquet is rich with aromas that initially evoke floral nuances of violet and wild rose, followed by a more intense fruity note, enveloped by the pleasant aroma of the oak in which it was aged. On the palate, the wine's structure and breadth are well balanced by a remarkable freshness, which enhances the lingering finish.
Pairings: Perfect with beef, chicken, and pork dishes. Excellent with cured meats and aged cheeses, as well as delicate or rich first courses.
Vineyard training system: Guyot in calcareous, marly soil at an altitude of 375 meters above sea level. The vineyard is completely grassed with grasses, legumes, and brassicas, cultivated to provide organic matter and protect the slope from rainfall erosion. Along the rows and between the vines, grass growth is controlled without the use of any chemical weedkillers.
The Winery: The Bava family's history begins in Cocconato, a village perched in the hills of the Monferrato area of Asti. The Bava family has been cultivating vineyards in this area since the 1600s. Today, the property extends into the Monferrato and Langhe regions, with vineyards and spontaneous woodlands cultivated with the same sensitivity as in the past, for sustainable agriculture with a reduced environmental impact. Driving past the Bava vineyards, you'll notice grass clippings and pruning residues used as natural fertilizer, wooden poles sourced from renewable forests, and grass cover between the rows, which prevents soil erosion and ensures the exclusion of herbicides. The three farms of Cocconato, Agliano, and Castiglione Falletto have been producing excellent and unique wines for generations. The wineries were founded in 1911 and have been pioneers in the use of barriques since 1975.
