Marsala Superiore Historical Reserve Sweet 20 years - Vito Curatolo Arini
The result of a selected blend of wines made from Grillo and Catarratto grapes, it has been a jealously guarded secret for years. Grapes harvested by hand at the end of September, destemming and roller pressing. Maceration and fermentation at a controlled temperature of 25 - 28 C° in stainless steel for approximately 14 days to transform all the sugars into alcohol and optimally extract the polyphenols, important for the aging phase. Wine alcohol is added until the minimum 18 alcohol levels, mistella and cooked must are reached. Aging follows for a minimum of 20 years in Slavonian oak barrels and French barriques. IWC Gold Medal 2018.

Tasting Notes: Bright in color with amber reflections, it has intense and complex aromas of apricot, dates and spices. Full and enveloping on the palate with traces of caramel and bitter almonds, it has a very persistent finish.
Pairings: It is excellent as an aperitif. It goes well with bruschetta with fresh cheese and anchovies, or soft cheeses and obviously traditional Sicilian desserts.
The Cellar: The story of the birth of Marsala begins in 1773, when an English merchant, John Woodhouse, had to take refuge in the city of Marsala due to a storm at sea and he happened to taste the wine produced in the surrounding countryside. Being fascinated by it, he sent it to England (with the addition of brandy for the journey) and from there the great success of Marsala wine was born. Almost a century later, a winemaker named Vito Curatolo Arini decided to make a change to his production. In the midst of his own vineyards, in the westernmost portion of Sicily, he built what, still today, is a cutting-edge winemaking plant, and began producing fine Marsalas, immediately appreciated and marketed throughout the world.Vito Furthermore, he commissioned Ernesto Basile, father of the famous "Sicilian Liberty" or "Art Nouveau", to design the label of his first Marsala; this label is still currently in use and is known for its originality and elegance. Each new generation has then contributed to writing a new chapter in the history of the company, thus carrying on the family winemaking tradition. A great contribution to the development of Vito Curatolo Arini and to the maintenance of its role on international markets was given by Antonio who, thanks to his precious chemical skills, ensured an unmistakable added value to the company's products. Today Vito's dream is kept alive by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren who, together with their children, manage the company; everyone works with full respect for the family legacy and for those who have worked in the company since its foundation. A story of Sicily, which best tells what happens when passion combines with competence and a great territory, and the result of this meeting can be found in every Marsala by Vito Curatolo Arini.
