The Winery: Château Ferrière was founded in the 18th century by Gabriel Ferrière, a naval agent and officer in the king's hunting department. Between sales, leases, and changes of ownership, Château Ferrière endured a difficult period until the early 1990s, when Jacques Merlaut, already owner of Château Chasse-Spleen, La Gurgue, and Haut-Bages Libéral with his family, purchased the estate, bringing it a true rebirth. Most of Château Ferrière's vineyards are located in the Margaux region, where the poor, well-drained soils allow the vines to grow deep into the soil; this is one of the winery's strengths, along with the unique microclimate influenced by the Atlantic Ocean and the Gironde River, and sustainable practices (certified organic since 2015 and biodynamic since 2018). The estate's 20 hectares are dominated by Bordeaux classics—Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot, and Cabernet Franc—and the vinification takes place in concrete vats of varying sizes to treat the different parcels differently. The wines of Château Ferrière, classified as a 3ème Grand Cru, are an elegant expression that perfectly represents one of the world's finest terroirs.
