Marananga Shiraz Bin 150 - Penfolds
Bin 150 Marananga Shiraz from the Penfolds Estate is produced on ancient Marananga vines, in the immediate vicinity of the Barossa Valley in South Australia. The warm, dry climate and typically red, iron-rich soil provide the perfect substrate for ripening intensely flavored grapes, which produce the region's most important wines. The Penfolds Estate, founded in the mid-19th century, has contributed to the worldwide diffusion of Australian wines, focusing on their distinctive organoleptic characteristics. From the typical Syrah or Shiraz grape varieties and the traditional Penfolds method, this Bin 150 Marananga Shiraz is made, aged for 16 months in French and American oak barrels.

Tasting Notes: A dark, inky red wine, extremely full-bodied and structured, with a pleasant acidity in the finish. Powerful, fruity, and full-bodied, the bouquet is characterized by great intensity. On the palate, the wine reveals all the typical characteristics of the region, with a palate marked by a good aromatic development, underscored by notes of small black fruits. The tannins display a dense and fine texture, with a lovely biting acidity in the finish, perfectly balancing the impression of smoothness in the finish. Powerful, structured, a great wine that reflects the expression of Shiraz.
Pairings: Excellent with roast or grilled meat, mature cheeses and game.
The Winery: Penfolds was founded by Christopher Rawson Penfold, a young English doctor firmly convinced of the healing properties of wine. Before leaving Britain to emigrate to Australia, he procured vines from the south of France. The small vines were planted near the cottage Penfold built with his wife in 1845 in Adelaide. Until the second half of the 20th century, Penfolds produced almost exclusively brandy and fortified wines, such as Port or Sherry, used for medicinal purposes. Toward the middle of the last century, in 1950 to be precise, table wine production began to increase, reflecting changing consumer tastes. Among the vines, the utmost respect for the environment, nature, and the ecosystem is maintained, resulting in the grapes harvested being all top-quality, pure, and concentrated in every organoleptic nuance. In the cellar, from destemming to pressing, from fermentation to aging, from bottling to refinement, every production step is constantly and scrupulously monitored to ensure the highest possible level of quality.
