Skinos Liqueur - Mastiha Spirit
 
Skinos is composed of a single pure ingredient, mastiha: it is an aromatic resinous sap extracted from the Lentisk (Pistacia Lentiscus) through expert cuts on the trunk which induce tearing. The entire manufacturing process has been carried out exclusively by hand for centuries. The crystalline-looking liquor that is obtained is called Mastiha: the resin, after three months of maceration in alcohol, is distilled in a copper still, rests for another three months and after being added with sugar and brought to the alcoholic strength of 30%, is bottled. The Skinos company stands out from the others for being the only one to distill the raw material and not to carry out a simple maceration.

Tasting Notes: The liqueur with a crystalline appearance. On the nose it presents fragrant vegetal, sweet, perfumed hints and an intense smell of resin. On the palate we find hints of carrot, cucumber and mint, with a very balsamic finish. Thanks to its digestive properties it is perfect as an after meal, hot punch and as a fine ingredient in exclusive cocktails.
 
Distillery: For more than 300 years the inhabitants of the enchanting and beautiful Aegean island of Chios have harvested the tears of the Mastiha tree. Each plant produces on average around 200 grams of resin per year and this precious and rare sap, which acquired the Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) in 1997, has been known since 250 AD. for its healing virtues officially recognized by the global pharmaceutical industry. As early as 600 BC, mastiha was the secret ingredient in a spirit that traveled throughout the ancient world, and began to be used as a delicious and effective digestive.
