Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky Lore - Laphroaig
“Lore” in Gaelic means “passage”, like that of the traditions and ancient knowledge that have always characterized the charm of Laphroaig for more than two centuries. We are faced with a typically peated Single Malt Scotch Whisky, which speaks well of the typical nature of the island of Islay - where peat is indeed a fundamental element - aged both in ex-Bourbon barrels and in ex-Sherry Oloroso barrels. Rich, complex and full of history, this “Lore” will take you on a journey through aromas and flavors waiting to be discovered.
Type: Whisky
Origin: Scotland
Alcohol content: 48%
Format: 70cl with box
Tasting Notes: A beautiful golden color comes into view. The nose appears fresh, with a subtle aroma reminiscent of peat, alternating with fruitier sensations and touches of chocolate. When tasted it has an excellent body, with a dry sip characterized by a peaty taste, perfectly in agreement with the nose.
The Distillery: Laphroaig is one of the iconic distilleries of the Isle of Islay, home of peated Scotch whiskies, where smoke and sea contribute to the creation of unique single malts. Its name of Gaelic origin means "the beautiful little valley by the broad bay", in English "the beautiful hollow by the broad bay". It was founded in 1815 by Donald and Alexander Johnston, originally of the McCabes part of the Donald Clan who changed their name after the Jacobite rising, and who left the distillery to the Hunter family in 1887 and which remained in the family until the mid-1850s last. Today it is part of the Beam Suntory group after passing from the ownership of Allied Domecq, Fortune Brands to Pernod Ricard. Among the many awards it also carries the frieze of the Royal Warrant of the Prince of Wales obtained in 1984 also considering that the Prince of Wales particularly loves their 15 year old. Laphroaig distillery defines itself as "the most richly flavored of all Scotch whiskies" and that is "the richest in aromas of all Scotch whiskies", to specify its production footprint which has never failed. Also in 1994, the Friend of Laphroaig Club was founded, whose members are entitled to rent a square foot of land on the island of Islay to underline the connection with the island of this historic distillery.
