Dry Black Gin - Scapegrace

Dry Black Gin - Scapegrace

Scapegrace's Dry Gin Black is the first natural black gin in the world. Scapegrace Black is the creation of duo Mark Neal and Daniel McLaughlin; a mix of botanicals including aronia berries, saffron, pineapple, sweet potato and “Butterfly Pea” (Clitoria ternatea), called in Italian “blue pea” or “cordofan pea”. A fresh and worldly Gin, perfect for toasting on a terrace in the city and for surprising your guests with the magic of color... the gin, dark as ink, when in contact with the tonic gives us elegant purple shades.

Tasting Notes: The olfactory picture opens with delicate floral notes which soon give way to intense spicy and medicinal herbal notes, with balsamic and juniper nuances. The entry to the palate is soft and rich, with aromas of tropical fruit, citrus peel, aromatic herbs and spices. The finish is harmonious and very persistent, with a return of pleasant spicy sensations on a refreshing base of juniper berries. A distillate that has a natural black color. In addition to the classic juniper berries, wheat alcohol and a selection are used of high quality botanicals, coming from all over the world, including: orange peel, lemon peel, mandarin peel, coriander seeds, cardamom, juniper, angelica, liquorice, cinnamon and cassia.

Cocktail: Its dark color tends to turn towards purplish blue when it is mixed to prepare a classic Gin Tonic, which thus takes on fascinating and glamorous nuances.

The Distillery: A reality that was born from the friendship between two men who did not know each other, until one married the other's sister, thus establishing a family bond which was the incipit of the birth of Scapegrace. A distillery dedicated to the highly artisanal production of Gin, made only in small batches, in order to always maintain a high quality standard. A Gin that is born following the infusion, in pure fermented wheat, of 12 different botanicals, where, alongside juniper, we find coriander, angelica, orris, cinnamon and other elements, which contribute to enriching its olfactory profile. During the manufacturing process, in which a copper still of the nineteenth century "pot still" type is used, water also has its importance, and for this reason the Scapegrace team uses the pure water that flows on the southern mountain ranges of New Zealand, filtered deeply through underground rocks.
