Cognac Hennessy XXO - Hennessy
The eaux-de-vie for Hennessy XXO Cognac were carefully stored and preserved in French oak barrels by the master blender several generations ago to create a reserve with promising potential. The decanter was specially modified by an artist designer to pay homage to two families: the family of the founder Hennessy and the cellar masters of the House. It was precisely at the same time as the XO cuvée that Hennessy XXO was born, in 1870. Master blender Emile Fillioux had decided to set aside eaux-de-vie with promising potential. The result was so surprising that the discovery was shared worldwide. In 2018, the seventh generation of Master Fitters, represented by Yann Fillioux and after a 50-year career with the House of Hennessy, revived the XXO cuvée.

The Distillery: Hennessy Cognac is one of the most prestigious Cognac houses in the world, renowned for its exceptional craftsmanship and the extraordinary quality of its eaux-de-vie. Founded in 1765 by Richard Hennessy, this house boasts a long history and an unparalleled tradition in Cognac production. The Hennessy family's history dates back to the 18th century, when Richard Hennessy, an Irish officer in the service of the King of France, decided to settle in Cognac, in the Charente region, to establish the brandy trade. Thanks to his experience and knowledge of the market, Richard Hennessy quickly made a name for himself, producing Cognac of exceptional quality. Over the generations, the Hennessy family has passed on its expertise and winemaking heritage, contributing to the Cognac house's worldwide fame. Today, Hennessy belongs to the LVMH luxury group, while remaining faithful to its values of excellence and tradition. The terroir of the Charente region is a fundamental element in the production of Hennessy Cognac. The vineyards extend over approximately 70,000 hectares, covering six appellation-controlled zones, the most prestigious of which are the Grande Champagne and Petite Champagne crus. These terroirs, characterized by limestone soils, benefit from a moderate oceanic climate, creating ideal conditions for growing the Ugni Blanc, Folle Blanche, and CoLombard grape varieties. The quality of the terroir, combined with sustainable and responsible viticulture methods, allows the vines to produce the highest quality grapes, which will be used to produce Hennessy's exceptional brandies. The production of Hennessy Cognac is a complex and meticulous process. It begins with the careful selection of the finest eaux-de-vie, which are then double-distilled in traditional copper stills. Aging is the key stage in Hennessy Cognac production, taking place in French oak barrels, often sourced from the Tronçais and Limousin forests. The eaux-de-vie age for years, even decades, in these barrels, acquiring their complexity, subtle aromas, and unique character. Hennessy is also renowned for its art of blending, which involves expertly combining eaux-de-vie of different ages and crus to create balanced and harmonious Cognacs. The cellar masters, custodians of Hennessy's expertise, guard the secrets of this ancestral art, preserving the coherence and excellence of the cuvées. Hennessy Cognacs are distinguished by their aromatic richness, rounded palate, and lingering finish. They offer a complex aromatic palette, ranging from notes of ripe fruit and citrus to spicy, vanilla, and woody aromas. On the palate, the Cognacs are soft, velvety, with notes of caramel and dried fruit, a testament to their great maturity.
