Brandy de Jerez Solera Gran Reserva Family Reserve - Lustau Emilio

This Spanish brandy is created by a small Solera process with just five butts. The small barrels were in fact intended for the Lustau family themselves, which is why only the best barrels from Oloroso and Pedro Ximénez are used. “A family secret”. Aged for 25 years in selected American oak barrels that have held Oloroso and Pedro Ximenez for many years, giving it a strong profile of these wines, with intense aromas of nuts and smoked wood of Oloroso and floral and citrus aromas of Pedro Ximenez, reminiscent the fruits of raisins.

The Distillery: Bodegas Lustau is a famous Sherry producer in Andalusia, Spain. La Bodega is probably the most recognized fortified wine producer in the world. The estate was founded in 1896 by José Ruiz-Berdejo as Almacenista, and he also cultivated his own vineyards. The Almacenists usually bought young wine (Ruiz made his own) and cultivated it in their soleras, before selling it to larger houses, who mixed it with older wine or matured it longer in their larger soleras. It wasn't until the 1950s that Ruiz's son-in-law, Emilio Lustau Ortega, began bottling and exporting his own wine. Now based in Jerez, Lustau is the only winery to have sites in the three cities of the Sherry Triangle: Jerez de la Frontera, El Puerto de Santa María and Sanlúcar de Barrameda. Lustau purchases grapes, while maintaining two of its own vineyards. The first is the Montegilillo vineyard, which sits on soil of white albariza calcarea, local to the region. The second is the Las Cruces vineyard, which is located on sandy coastal soils.
