The Distillery: It is from the passion of a young 28-year-old entrepreneur that the favorite drink of 19th-century artists and poets is being revived in the heart of Emilia. But Absinthe Elixir Vitae Mistico Speziale is just one of the many liqueurs produced by the Reggio Emilia-based company. Absinthe, one of the symbols of the bohemian lifestyle, is being revived in the countryside just a few kilometers from Reggio Emilia thanks to the work of Saverio and Valentina Denti, the two young siblings who founded the Azienda Agricola Mistico Speziale in Roncadella. In the laboratory next to the fields where the medicinal herbs used in their infusions and distillates are grown, the legend of the liqueur most beloved by the Cursed Poets lives on, produced here according to the authentic recipe with locally sourced ingredients. Absinthe Elixir Vitae Mistico Speziale is just one of 11 liqueurs in the company's product range, which also includes herbal elixirs, rosolios, refined liqueurs, and classics like nocino and limoncello. Absinthe Elixir Vitae Mistico Speziale is produced according to the authentic method—also known as the Swiss method—which involves maceration and subsequent distillation of the plants, resulting in a higher-quality absinthe than that obtained using essential oils. The ingredient list includes approximately fifteen herbs and spices, including Artemisia Absinthium (or Greater Wormwood, the herb from which it takes its name), green anise, fennel, lemon balm, hyssop, and coriander. Production batches never exceed 40 liters, to ensure the highest quality and to be able to meticulously monitor every stage of production, from the selection of herbs to the proper distillation, coloring, oxygenation, and aging in ash barrels.
