Aperitivo Americano Cocchi Rosa - Giulio Cocchi
  • American Aperitif Cocchi Rosa - Giulio Cocchi

Flavored wine conceived by Giulio Cocchi in 1891 and produced continuously according to the original recipe. Its aroma given by the "bitter" alcohol with herbs and spices is called American, also because the custom of drinking vermouth with ice and soda spread from the United States. The Cocchi Americano is, for Asti, the aperitif par excellence, a piece of the city's history. It features the original futurist cockerel designed in the 1930s on the label: it represents its function as an aperitif by "waking up the appetite" and is one of the symbols of the city of Asti. During his history Cocchi has produced some variations of his American Aperitif. The most recent is Cocchi Rosa, produced from a base of red wines from Piedmont to which extracts of herbs and spices are added.

Close the bottle with its cap after opening, keep refrigerated and consume within a month.

Tasting Notes: A beautiful pink color accompanies a very broad aromatic spectrum, which pushes towards notes of candied citrus. In the mouth, thanks to the characteristic flavor, it is particularly rich in substance with the same aromatic notes as the nose and fine citron flavors. With its name Cocchi Rosa it reminds us that it is produced with red wines, from which it takes its color and wild rose characteristics. It is refined with natural extracts of flowers and spices including in particular gentian, cinchona and citrus fruits, as for the White Americano but with the addition of ginger, vanilla and rose petals.

    Cocktails:

The classic version includes a glass with ice cubes, a splash of soda and a pink grapefruit peel. Soda can be replaced with ginger beer, lemon soda and tonic water, achieving excellent results.

In its spritz version, Cocchi Rosa is combined with brachetto wine and pink grapefruit or lemon zest; garnish with a sprig of rosemary. It is particularly happy mixing with spirits such as gin, vodka and metzcal.

Cocchi Rosa is a perfect ingredient for the new strong trend of "low octane" cocktails, with low alcohol content.

The Cellar: Giulio Cocchi was a young and creative pastry chef from Florence who moved to Asti at the end of the nineteenth century. He created original recipes for Barolo Chinato, Aperitivo Americano and several types of Vermouth, achieving success and fame in a short time. Giulio Cocchi's idea, exceptional for the time, was to open authorized retailers where these products could be tasted. Cocchi was a very well-known brand during the Belle Epoque and on the eclectic scene of the futurist period. The Cocchi name and products soon became famous throughout the world as demonstrated by export documents: from New York to London, from Sydney to Africa and Venezuela. Cocchi paid a lot of attention to quality single-variety brut sparkling wines, produced with the Italian method since the 1980s such as CocchiBrut and, more recently, the commitment to the creation and valorisation of the DOCG Altalanga, of which Cocchi is still one of the most busy. From the founder Giulio Cocchi, the winery has also inherited an inexhaustible liveliness and qualitative research that has led it to be known and appreciated on five continents. All Cocchi products are wine-based and the recipes are those of the past, codified based on the intuitions of Giulio Cocchi himself. What defines the Cocchi style is therefore elegance and authenticity, the quality of the wine and the ingredients, the centenary technical experience, a passion and creativity that have never waned over the years. Since 2012 Giulio Cocchi has been registered in the National Register of Historic Companies of Italy for its first 130 years of uninterrupted activity.
