In the early 20th century the head of the House of Cognac, Oliver Shabass, met the wonderful Elizabeth Bowen while traveling around the world to promote her Cognac. Struck by her passion for nature and freedom of spirit, upon her return to France he created a Cognac that embodied everything he loved about her. The Distillery: Although the exact date is unknown, at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, Rene-Luc Chabasse's great-grandfather (owner of cognac estates and brands) inherited a number of properties and vineyards in the Cognac region. Taking advantage of this fortune, he decided to combine this work with his passion for travel. His travels took him around the world, but he felt attracted to the French colonies of Indochina and Africa. It was during one of these trips that he met and fell in love with Elizabeth Bowen, a young woman whose family had a farm near Pondicherry in southeast India. In love, the young man worked hard to create a particularly aromatic cognac and elegant just for her. The result was a success and the beginning of the journey of a cognac brand that still bears her name today.
